Enrichment Program
Program Requirements:
Children must be five years of age on or before September 30th for the academic year they are enrolling.
Class Times:
11:20 – 3:00 for children enrolled in the public AM Kindergarten session. Two day minimum, Monday through Friday. Transportation to/from Golden Brook is provided. You would pack a cold lunch. Extended care hours through 6:00pm are availbale and include a snack. Please contact us for details.
Program Goals
The Academy’s half-day Kindergarten enrichment program works in coordination with the curriculum of Windham Public Schools to address the cognitive, social, physical and emotional needs of the Kindergarten student.
Using a broad range of content that is relevant, engaging and meaningful to children, the program incorporates a variety of integrated learning experiences, materials, and equipment, and instructional strategies that accommodate the broad range of children’s unique differences in prior experience, developmental levels and learning styles and compliments their learning in their public school program.
Program Themes
The program themes of the Academy’s full day program are used as a basis and outline to enrich and enhance the learning provided by the Windham Public School system. These themes include:
Language Arts
Reading and writing, including phonemic awareness, letter-sound identification, decoding, letter formation, sentence development and phonics.
Social Studies
Foundational elements for later studies in history and geography are pursued.
Science
Introduction to the basic concepts of life science, plants, seasons, senses, and the scientific method.
International Language & Culture
Introduction to foreign language and culture study.
Math
Basic concepts of problem solving, reasoning, communication, making connections, and designing and analyzing representations are introduced.
The Arts
Exposure to a wide variety of art mediums with encouragement to use imagination, listening and observational skills and personal experiences as a basis for creating art.
Music
Children will be supported and encouraged to express themselves through music and movement.
Physical Education
Exposure to a range of sports and activities to encourage physical fitness is presented.
